February 10, 2023
Malone, NY – Malone Middle School and North Country Workforce Partnership, Inc. are proud to announce its participation in the Authentic STEM program, a cutting-edge career exploration program connecting students with businesses as they tackle real-world challenges using essential STEM principles. This exciting partnership makes Malone Middle School (MMS) the first middle school to be involved in this pilot project, setting a new standard for STEM education in the North Country.
Authentic STEM is a collaboration between the North Country Workforce Partnership, Inc. (NCWP) and the University of Siegen, Germany, with educational partners Champlain Valley Educational Services and Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES. Through hands-on experience and exposure to the latest technology and trends, students at Malone Middle School will gain valuable skills, increase their confidence, and discover their passions.
By working with German students and international companies, the program broadens students’ understanding of the opportunities available in STEM and gives them a chance to experience these fields first-hand. The international aspect of the program will also help students develop a global perspective and understand the world’s interconnectedness. These students from Malone Middle School will have the unique opportunity to learn from diverse experts and peers, expanding their knowledge and perspectives. This program will empower students to explore their passions, increase their confidence, and gain valuable skills that will help them succeed in their future careers.
Under Principal Kurt Munson’s leadership, the MMS staff is leading the charge in rethinking how we approach career orientation. They understand the importance of providing students with a comprehensive education that prepares them for success in their future careers. The 8th-grade technology class, led by Michael Stone, is the first group to participate in this pilot project, and they are eager to take on the real-world challenges the Authentic STEM program presents.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Malone Middle School to the Authentic STEM program,” said Jordon LeBlanc, Programming Director at the NCWP. “This program will give students a unique opportunity to explore STEM careers and connect with industry leaders. By participating in this program, school leaders are setting a new standard for STEM education and helping our students to reach their full potential. This is only the beginning! With cohorts being planned for Fall 2023, we anticipate more students getting the opportunity to join this fantastic program!”
With a focus on hands-on learning, real-world challenges, and mentorship from industry leaders, Authentic STEM is changing the way students think about STEM careers. This program will have a lasting impact on the future of STEM education in the North Country and beyond.
The North Country Workforce Partnership, Inc and the University of Siegen are proud to welcome Malone Middle School to the Authentic STEM program and look forward to the positive impact this partnership will have on students and the community.
